‘SUPERMAN/BATMAN: Public Enemies’ coming to Blu-ray

The world’s greatest Super Heroes become America’s most wanted criminals — and are hunted by friends and foes alike — in SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES, the sixth entry in the popular DVD series of DC Universe Animated Original PG-13 Movies. A co-production of Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation, the full-length animated film will be distributed by Warner Home Video on September 29, 2009. SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES will be available as a Special Edition 2-disc version on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well as single disc DVD and On Demand.

In the film, United States President Lex Luthor uses the oncoming trajectory of a Kryptonite asteroid to frame Superman and declare a $1 billion bounty on the heads of the Man of Steel and his “partner in crime,” Batman. Heroes and villains alike launch a relentless pursuit of Superman and Batman, who must unite — and recruit help — to stave off the onslaught, stop the asteroid, and uncover Luthor’s devious plot to take command of far more than North America.

‘The Dark Knight’ smashes UK Blu-ray sales record

The sales numbers are in and The Dark Knight has broken the UK Blu-ray sales record by selling 107,730 Blu-ray Discs, 21% of the total number of 513,000 units sold, in the first day.

It is now apparent that Blu-ray is surging in popularity, with 463,000 Blu-ray players sold in November 2008, a 66% increase from October.

Lavinia Carey, director general of the British Video Association, commented: “The promising sales of Blu-ray discs demonstrate that increasingly more people are recognising the substantial increase in quality that Blu-ray provides.”

1 million Blu-ray copies of ‘The Dark Knight’ expected to ship

VB reports that Warner Home Video is expected to ship more than 1 million Blu-ray copies of ‘The Dark Knight’ for its December 9th release date. This is believed to be a first for the Blu-ray format.

A few weeks ago Paramount sold 500,000 copies of ‘Iron Man’ on Blu-ray but it is unknown how many units were shipped.

Warner is also putting together many promotions in order to encourage customers to purchase ‘The Dark Knight’ and other Warner Bros. releases. “We have been working with key retailers to put together account specific offers, where we bundle a device or the PlayStation 3 remote with one of our titles, which gives the customers value in return,” said Dorinda Marticorena of Warner Bros.
