‘Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition’ comes to Blu-ray

The Walt Disney original classic, Pinocchio, is heading to DVD and Blu-ray as “Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition” on March 10, 2009. Available for the first time on Blu-ray and 2-Disc DVD, Pinocchio is restored with enhanced picture and sound. The movie will be available for a limited time only and comes loaded with bonus features.

The special 2-Disc Blu-ray release not only includes a bonus standard definition DVD of the film in the same package, but provides viewers accessibility to Disney’s popular BD-Live Network, which allows viewers to chat, video stream, participate in communal games and download exclusive content.

5 more Disney classics, including Snow White, coming to Blu-ray

The NY Times reports that Disney plans on releasing five more classic animated movies on Blu-ray within two years. The five movies bound for high-definition glory are: Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 and last but no least, Beauty and the Beast. Disney will kick off it’s Platinum Blu-ray releases with Sleeping Beauty on October 7th.

All of the releases will take full advantage of Blu-ray technology including BD Live, which allows for internet interactivity. Bob Chapek, president of Disney’s home entertainment division, is fully behind Blu-ray and BD Live, commenting “BD Live is not a niche product, We see mass adoption of the technology.”

‘WALL-E’ coming to Blu-ray November 18th

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that Pixar’s ‘WALL-E’ will arrive on Blu-ray on November 18th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The movie will be packaged in a two-disc set and feature BD-Live interactivity and a digital copy of the film.

Extras include all the DVD features, including commentary with director Andrew Stanton, five featurettes, deleted scenes, the new animated short: “Burn-E” and a “Lots of Bots” storybook. Exclusive to the Blu-ray is an additional picture-in-picture commentary and three interactive games.

Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray details

When Walt Disney’s beloved animated classic, Sleeping Beauty was presented 50 years ago for the first time in an all new Super Technirama 70 format, it mesmerized audiences and critics alike. Now in 2008, this classic fairytale is poised to do the same for a whole new generation to enjoy when it is reawakened in a special BD Live enabled 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray Disc, releasing October 7, 2008. Additionally, the film has been packaged to include a bonus DVD of the movie.

Sleeping Beauty will support Disney’s BD Live Network which combines chat, video streaming, online messaging, communal gaming and more.

Disney’s BD Live Network will allow viewers to: Chat on-screen in real-time with friends while watching a movie screen-by-screen; Record personalized video greetings that appears on-screen over a pre-selected scene in a movie; Play real-time interactive or strategy games against single and/or multiple groups of people; And much more.

‘Enchanted’ Blu-ray Review

Remember Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and the countless other Disney classics of yesterday? Remember when you saw them for the first time how they made you smile? The films were pleasant and full of heart and were good, wholesome fun. Sadly, there hasn’t been a new Disney fairytale classic in too long a time – that is, until now. With Enchanted, Disney has returned to its roots of fairytale storytelling delivering an entertaining and delightful movie viewing experience.
