‘Max Payne’ blasts its way onto Blu-ray

MAX PAYNE blasts its way onto DVD and Blu-ray Disc January 20th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. A stylized adaptation of the hit video game, Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg stars as the title character Max Payne, an obsessive DEA agent who descends into the gritty New York City crime world to avenge the gruesome murders of his family and partner.

The MAX PAYNE Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc, both featuring Digital Copy, are highlighted by the Unrated Extended Cut of the film plus the never-before-seen animated graphic novel that delves deeper into Max Payne’s endless vengeance, along with an in-depth production documentary on the making of the film (Part 1 is featured on the Special Edition DVD; Part 2 is only available exclusively on the Blu-ray Disc edition).

The MAX PAYNE BD is presented in widescreen format (2.35:1 aspect ratio) on a 50GB dual-layer disc authored in BD-J with English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio and French & Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital, with English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean subtitles.

‘RENT: Filmed Live on Broadway’ coming to Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release RENT: Filmed Live on Broadway on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on February 3, 2009. The Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical thrived for an impressive 12 years on Broadway, and on Sunday, September 7, 2008, Sony Pictures Releasing’s new alternative programming division THE HOT TICKET was there to capture the final Broadway performance. This special release is timed to the launch of the National Theater Tour of RENT, which begins January 2009 starring original Broadway cast members Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, and others.

Both the Blu-ray Disc and DVD are loaded with special features including numerous original featurettes. Special Features Exclusive to Blu-ray Include: “Home” – A Behind-the-Scenes look at the theater that was transformed into the home for RENT; “Casting” – Bernard Telsey talks about casting the show for the past 12 years; and Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation PSA.

The Blu-ray Disc version of RENT: Filmed Live on Broadway is BD-Live enabled, allowing users to get connected and go beyond the disc via an Internet-connected Blu-ray player.

‘Futurama: Into The Wild Green Yonder’ heads to Blu-ray

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment presents the fourth and final feature-length “Futurama” movie, “Futurama: Into The Wild Green Yonder,” arriving in stores February 24, 2009 on DVD and Blu-ray. Guest stars include Penn Jillette, Snoop Dogg, Phil Hendrie, and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. In addition, fans of the series will finally discover the truth about “Number 9 Man,” a mysterious character from the earliest days of the series.

Synopsis:
In this all-new Futurama movie, mankind stands on the brink of a new Green Age. But ancient forces of darkness, three years older than time itself, have returned to wreak destruction. Even more shocking: Bender’s in love with a married fembot, and Leela’s on the run from the law – Zapp Brannigan’s law! Fry is the last hope of the universe… Could this be the end of the Planet Express crew forever?

Futurama: Into The Wild Green Yonder is packed with bonus features, including audio commentary from Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, writers and animators, a making-of mockumentary, deleted scenes, How to Draw Futurama, “Bender’s Movie Theater Etiquette,” “Zapp Brannigan’s Guide to Making Love at a Woman” and much more.

The Futurama: Into The Wild Green Yonder Blu-ray Disc will include all of the special features of the standard def version in high definition (except the Storyboard Animatic: Into the Wild Green Yonder, Part 1 and Matt Groening and David X. Cohen in Space! which are presented in standard def) as well as:

Video Picture–In–Picture commentary by Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Michael Rowe, Lee Supercinski, Patric M. Verrone and Peter Avanzino.

‘The Express’ arrives on Blu-ray Jan. 27th

Universal Studios is set to release ‘The Express’ on Blu-ray on January 27, 2009, day-and-date with the DVD release. The movie is based on the life story of football legend Ernie Davis.

Tech specs: BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p video and an English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track.

Extras include audio commentary with director Gary Fieder, four featurettes and deleted scenes. Blu-ray exclusives include the “50th Anniversary of the 1959 Syracuse National Championship” excerpt, My Scenes Sharing, and BD-Live connectivity.

‘Ronin’ speeds onto Blu-ray

Revered among action connoisseurs for its legendary car chase sequence, Ronin debuts on Blu-ray Disc February 24 from MGM Home Entertainment. Directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Robert DeNiro, Ronin centers around a group of former covert agents who sell their unique and deadly services to anyone for the right price.

When an IRA pay mistress assembles an elite group of international assassins in Paris for a dangerous assignment to retrieve a mysterious suitcase, these lone soldiers will have to learn to trust each other in a world where loyalty is bought and betrayal is a way of life.

Ronin BD is authored in HDMV (mpeg-2) on a Single Layer (25gb) disc and presented with 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Master Audio, as well as English Dolby Surround 5.1 and French, Spanish, Korean and Cantonese subtitles.

‘IGOR’ heads to Blu-ray

In a land of mad scientists and diabolical inventions, one lowly lab assistant has a chance to achieve his dreams in IGOR, debuting on DVD and Blu-ray Disc January 20th from MGM Home Entertainment. IGOR features an ensemble voice cast including John Cusack, John Cleese, Steve Buscemi, Jay Leno, Jennifer Coolidge, Christian Slater, Molly Shannon, Eddie Izzard and Arsenio Hall.

Synopsis: Determined to prove he can create his own diabolical invention, a mad scientist’s nice-guy assistant, Igor, creates a female Franken-monster. But his creation, Eva, is sweet and sings show tunes! That is, until she falls into the clutches of Dr. Schadenfreude and his shape-shifting girlfriend. Now it’s up to Igor and his sidekicks to save Eva – and their country – from real evildoers, including sneaky Prince Malpert.

The IGOR Blu-ray Disc is presented in widescreen and features an alternate opening scene and commentary by Director Tony Leondis, writer Chris McKenna and producer Max Howard.
