‘American Gangster’ coming to Blu-ray

Universal has announced that ‘American Gangster,’ starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, will arrive on Blu-ray on October 14, 2008. The movie will come in both a rated an unrated version on the same BD-50 dual-layer disc.

Unlike the previous HD DVD release, this version will include tons of extras including: audio commentary with director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Steven Zaillian, three featurettes, a pair of TV special excerpts, deleted scenes, two music videos, and the original theatrical trailer. The Blu-ray release also includes a Bonus View picture-in-picture commentary featuringadditional interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.

‘The Polar Express’ 3D Blu-ray announced

Tom Hanks’ The Polar Express is pulling into the station October 28 for the first time presented in 3-D on Blu-ray and DVD. To experience the 3-D fun, you’ll wear one of the four provided glasses. Don’t want to vomit all over your couch? (Rookie!) Then watch the regular version, also included on the disc.

The Polar Express is based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg about a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. He embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. The Polar Express – which has sold nearly 7 million copies in print and ranked #2 on the National Education Association’s Teachers Top 100 Books for Children – was selected as “Critics Choice” by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA); won the Grammy for Best Song Written For a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media and was honored with a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song and three Academy Award nominations including Best Original Song, Sound and Sound Editing.

Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Corteo’ comes Blu-ray

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced today that Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo will arrive on Blu-ray on September 23, 2008. Corteo is another triumph of Cirque du Soleil creator Guy Laiberté and is the first Cirque production to be released on Blu-ray Disc. Special features include a photo montage gallery and four featurettes that consist of “A Day in the Life of Corteo Artists,” a deeper look at the “Teatro Intimo” section of the show, a behind-the-scenes “Through the Curtain,” and a “filming-of” piece.

Corteo, which means “cortege” in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The main character is a clown who pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over quietly by caring angels.

‘Austin Powers’ Blu-ray collection announced

New Line and Warner Bros. have announced that ‘Austin Powers Collection: Shagadelic Edition, Loaded with Extra Mojo’ will arrive on Blu-ray on December 2nd and will include all three Austin Powers movies (International Man of Mystery, The Spy Who Shagged Me, Goldmember).

Bonus features include:

International Man of Mystery: commentary, two alternate endings, five deleted scenes and an animated sequence.

The Spy Who Shagged Me: commentary, Comedy Central mocumentary, behind-the-scenes featurette, 21 deleted scenes and four music videos

Goldmember: commentary, trivia track, 10 featurettes, 14 deleted scenes, outtake montage and four music videos.

‘WALL-E’ coming to Blu-ray November 18th

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that Pixar’s ‘WALL-E’ will arrive on Blu-ray on November 18th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The movie will be packaged in a two-disc set and feature BD-Live interactivity and a digital copy of the film.

Extras include all the DVD features, including commentary with director Andrew Stanton, five featurettes, deleted scenes, the new animated short: “Burn-E” and a “Lots of Bots” storybook. Exclusive to the Blu-ray is an additional picture-in-picture commentary and three interactive games.

‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystall Skull’ coming to Blu-ray

Paramount Home Entertainment announced today that the 4th installment in the Indiana Jones series, ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 14, 2008.

The movie will arrive in a two-disc set, packed full of extra bonus metarial. Disc one includes the movie itself, presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio, along with French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Bonus features on disc one include the Blu-ray exclusive “Indiana Jones Timeline,” a Bonus View picture-in-picture track to really immerse you in the movie’s timeline. Disc two includes production diaries, featurettes, pre-visualization sequences and photo galleries.

‘Casablanca’ gets Blu-ray release

Warner Bros. today announced that they will release the classic ‘Casablanca’ on Blu-ray on December 2ng, day-and-date with the DVD re-release.

The ‘Casablanca: Ultimate Collector’s Edition’ is a two-disc set which contains a collectible booklet, reproductions of executive memos and props, a branded passport holder with luggage tag, and a mail-in offer for a movie poster reproduction.

Extras include commentaries, featurettes, extra footage, outtakes, rare radio broadcasts, scoring sessions, photo galleries, original theatrical trailers and much more.

More ‘Raw Feed’ movies coming to Blu-ray

On October 7, Warner Home Video will release four titles on Blu-ray including, just in time for Halloween, three films from the “Raw Feed” branded series: OTIS, the original REST STOP and its new sequel REST STOP: DON’T LOOK BACK, plus BODY HEAT, starring William Hurt and Kathleen Turner.
