Jessica Alba’s ‘Awake’ coming to Blu-ray

The Weinstein Co. announced today that ‘Awake’ will be released on Blu-ray on November 18, 2008. ‘Awake’, starring Jessica Alba, Terence Howard and Hayden Christensen had a modest box office release, bringing in about $30MM worldwide. The movie was previously released on DVD.

‘Iron Man’ blasts its way onto Blu-ray

Paramount today announced that the blockbuster hit ‘Iron Man’ will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 30, as a two-disc special edition. The movie, starring Robert Downey Jr., was a huge hit at the box office, raking in a whopping $567MM worldwide.

The movie will be presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Extras include two documentaries, deleted and extended scenes, featurettes, still galleries and much more. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release is BD-Live functionality.

‘Daredevil: Director’s Cut’ makes its way onto Blu-ray

Fox announced today that ‘Daredevil: Director’s Cut’ will make its way onto Blu-ray on September 30, 2008. Ben Affleck stars as the masked vigilante, Daredevil; patrolling the rough streets of New York City to combat the injustice that he cannot tackle in the courtroom. Along with best friend Foggy Nelson and love interest, Elektra, Daredevil must combat Kingpin and Bullseye.

The Daredevil: Director’s Cut Blu-Ray Disc includes an extra 30 minutes of footage, director commentaries, theatrical trailers, a making-of, music videos, still galleries and much more.

The Daredevil Director’s Cut Blu-Ray Disc is presented in widescreen with English 5.1 DTS Master Audio, English, Spanish and French 5.1 Dolby Surround and includes English, French and Spanish subtitles.

‘Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music’ gets Blu-ray release

Warner Home Video has announced its plans to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the greatest music festival ever by releasing an Ultimate Collectors Edition (UCE) of the Oscar-winning Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music on DVD and Blu-ray on July 28, 2009.

The restored and remastered release will include more than an hour of newly discovered Festival performances, some never-before-published in their entirety, from a number of artists, including The Who, Joe Cocker, Canned Heat, Joan Baez, Country Joe McDonald and Country Joe and the Fish with more to be announced. The release will incorporate reflections and perspectives from musicians, celebrities, influencers and other giants in the entertainment industry on the cultural significance of Woodstock 40 years later.

The Ultimate Collector’s Edition will include the four-hour Director’s Cut, remastered from original elements and scanned at 2K with audio 5.1 mix supervised by director Michael Wadleigh. The concert original chief engineer Eddie Kramer who was on-site for the festival, is overseeing the audio mix of all of the recently found added footage. In addition to filmmaker commentary, replicas of handwritten notes from Festival attendees, The ‘60s and the Woodstock Generation – a 40 minute documentary film by Robert Kline, studio archive letters and other souvenir collectible items will be included.

M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘The Happening’ coming to Blu-ray

Fox announced today that M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘The Happening’ will be released on Blu-ray on October 7th, day-and-date with the DVD release.

‘The Happening’ stars Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo in Shyamalan’s first R-rated movie, which managed to bring in about $143MM in ticket sales worldwide on a budget of $60MM.

The movie will be presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround, with additional English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and subtitles.

‘Futurama: Bender’s Game’ Blu-ray confirmed

Head back to the future when Futurama: Bender’s Game premieres on DVD and, for the first time, Blu-ray Disc November 4 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

With fuel prices skyrocketing, the Planet Express crew sets off on a dangerous mission to infiltrate the world’s only dark-matter mine, source of all spaceship fuel. But deep beneath the surface, they discover a far stranger place… a medieval land of dragons and sorcery and intoxicated knights who look suspiciously like Bender.

Joining the cast are guest stars George Takei (Star Trek) and comic impressionist Rich Little.

The third installment of four all-new feature-length adventures, the Futurama: Bender’s Game DVD and Blu-ray are packed with special features. Hosted by David X. Cohen, “Dungeons & Dragons & Futurama” chronicles the influence of the classic role-playing fantasy game on the franchise.  Other special features include outtakes, cast commentary, an anti-piracy message from Bender, an interactive Futurama Genetics Laboratory, a sneak peek at the next “Futurama” movie, and much more.

The Futurama: Bender’s Game Blu-ray release includes the wide screen version of the film and all of the above standard definition special features plus Picture-in-Picture capabilities. The disc will be authored in BD-J with AVC (MPEG 4) compression and presented on 50 GB dual-layer disc with English 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Master Audio plus English, French, Spanish, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese subtitles.

‘You Don’t Mess to the Zohan’ heading to Blu-ray

Sony Pictures has announced that ‘You Don’t Mess to the Zohan’, starring Adam Sandler, will arrive on to Blu-ray on October 7, 2008, day=and-date with the DVD release.

Extras include audio commentary, lots of featurettes, deleted and alternate scenes. The movie will be presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.
