‘Horton Hears a Who!’ Blu-ray announced

Fox announced today that Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on December 9, 2008. The animated film stars Jim Carrey, Steve Carell and Carol Burnett.

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who! Blu-ray release will be presented in widescreen format on a 25GB single-layer disc authored in AVC (MPEG 4) compression with English 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Master Audio, Spanish/French 5.1 Dolby Digital plus English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and French subtitles.

‘The Ultimate Matrix Collection’ Blu-ray box set confirmed for North America

After news broke that Warner Bros Japan planned to release The Matrix on Blu-ray, many wondered if a North American release was planned. Well wonder no more, Matrix fans! Today, Warner Bros. announced that ‘The Ultimate Matrix Collection’ will be released on October 14, 2008.

The set is similar to the HD DVD version previously released. A total of seven discs are included, on which all three films, The Animatrix and tons of extras are presented. One such extra is a Digital Copy of the first Matrix.

‘Zombie Strippers’ Unrated Edition heads to Blu-ray

Get ready as Sony Pictures Home Entertainment unleashes Zombie Strippers on Special Edition Unrated Blu-ray on October 28. When a secret government project goes wrong, an out-of-control deadly virus is released into a Nebraska gentlemen’s club. You can pretty much guess what happens next. The horror-comedy stars Robert Englund (aka Freddy Kruger) and Jenna Jameson.

The Unrated Blu-ray includes exclusive, deleted scenes along with a Titillation and Sass: Zombie Strippers Pop-Up Fact Track and a BD Live Enhancement which allows compatible Blu-ray players to download exclusive content and previews.

Mel Brook’s ‘Young Frankenstein’ coming to Blu-ray

Fox today announced the upcoming release of Mel Brook’s YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN on Blu-ray. The classic comedy that was voted #13 on the American Film Institute’s list of America’s 100 Funniest Movies will arrive on store shelves in time for Halloween, on October 7, 2008.

The releases will include hours of brand new Blu-ray exclusive bonus materials all presented in HD. Features include picture-in-picture BonusView mode with all-new on-camera interviews with Brooks, Garr, Leachman and others, two new behind-the-scenes featurettes, over 25 minutes of never-before-seen deleted/extended scenes, on-screen trivia track, “The Brain Game” set-top game, interactive “Blucher Button” feature and an isolated score track.

George Carlin makes Blu-ray debut

The late comedic genius George Carlin will make his Blu-ray debut on November 25 with the release of ‘George Carlin: It’s Bad for Ya’. No other details are known at the moment but we can hope that it’s packed with bonus footage that would make Mr. Carlin proud.

‘The Ultimate Matrix Collection’ Blu-ray box set announced for Japan

Blu-ray.com reports that Warner Home Video Japan has announced that it will release ‘The Ultimate Matrix Collection’ on Blu-ray. The set will include four Blu-ray discs and three DVDs. All three films and The Animatrix will use up the four Blu-ray discs.

The first DVD will include “The Roots of The Matrix” and “The Burly Man Chronicles”. The second DVD will include “The Zion Archive”. The third DVD will include a digital copy of the ‘The Matrix’, which you can then copy to devices such as the iPod.

No word yet on whether or not the set will be released in other countries but one can safely assume that Warner Bros. will get around to it sooner than later.

‘The Strangers’ arrives on Blu-ray in October

Universal has announced today that ‘The Strangers’ on Blu-ray will arrive in stores on October 21, day-and-date with the DVD. The movie will be presented in 1080p video with DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. Features include deleted scenes and ‘scene sharing,’ which allows viewers to bookmark and share their favorite scenes from the film online.

Constantine heads to Blu-ray

Warner Bros. announced today that Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves, arrives on Blu-ray on October 14. Constantine features tons of extras including the In-Movie Experience (IME), commentaries, documentaries and deleted scenes.

In-Movie Experience
During the feature, Director Francis Lawrence will lead an exploration of the plot, stunts, characters and filmmaking process of Constantine.

Based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Hellblazer graphic novels, Constantine tells the story of John Constantine, a man who has literally been to hell and back. When he teams up with skeptical policewoman Angela Dodson to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.

Three-Disc Edition of Oliver Stone’s ‘JFK’ revealed

The controversial story surrounding President John F. Kennedy’s assassination is revisited with the November 11 release of Oliver Stone’s JFK as a Three-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition (UCE) from Warner Home Video.

JFK UCE will feature The Kennedys: America’s Emerald Kings, a new documentary from filmmaker Robert Kline based on Thomas Maier’s book about five generations of the Kennedy family. Unique to the documentary is political and private footage of the Kennedys not widely available to the general public.

JFK UCE also includes the Two-Disc Special Edition Director’s Cut with 17 additional minutes not seen in theaters and the documentary Beyond JFK: A Question of Conspiracy. It also contains memorabilia from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Kennedy Foundation, including reproductions of Kennedy family and presidential photos, letters written by or to John F. Kennedy from J. Edgar Hoover, Lyndon. B. Johnson and more. Also included is a Kennedy campaign button from the National Archives and Records Administration. Of particular distinction is the inclusion of John F. Kennedy’s historic inaugural address and a handwritten letter to his father, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr.

In addition, the set features a collectible booklet containing production photos and photo cards showcasing the actors in character with a mini bio of their character. Additionally, Blu-ray version will feature a premium hardcover book packaging with press material and photographs from the film
