Semi-Pro scores June Blu-ray release

New Line has announced a June 3rd release date for Will Ferrell’s Semi Pro, which will arrive in an unrated “Let’s Get Sweaty” two-disc special edition.

It’s safe to assume the quick turn around from its theatrical release to home video is due to the fact that the movie didn’t do so well at the box office, pulling in (as of this blog post) only $32 million domestically.

In my opinion, its R rating hurt the film’s potential. PG-13 would have brought in the millions of a teenagers between the ages of 13 and 16 who can’t get into a 17 and over R rated movie. Hopefully the movie will find a larger audience when it arrives on DVD and Blu-ray this June.

Semi-Pro will be presented in 1080p with DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 7.1 Surround.

Best Buy offers gift card to HD DVD owners

Best Buy is giving $50 gift cards to customers who purchased an HD DVD player or HD DVD Xbox 360 attachment from its U.S. stores before February 23, 2008. Customers will get a gift card for each player or HD DVD attachment that they purchased. Through this program, Best Buy will distribute more than $10 million in gift cards to customers across the country.

Most Best Buy customers won’t have to do anything to receive their gift card. Best Buy will proactively mail cards to all customers that the company can identify as having purchased an HD DVD player. Members of the Best Buy Reward Zone program, customers who purchased Performance Service Plans (PSPs) or who made their purchase on BestBuy.com should look for their gift cards in the mail by May 1. Other customers who may not be easily identified can call (888) BEST BUY to receive their gift cards with proof of purchase through a credit card or their Best Buy receipt.

Why is Best Buy doing this? Because they want you to use that gift card to hopefully purchase a Blu-ray player, some movies and some of those overpriced Monster cables.
